Timeless work- and rehearsal spaces for theatre professionals
A comprehensive renovation was carried out in the Actors’ Union’s new premises, as the building services were outdated and the spaces needed to be divided into two distinct functions. One half of the premises serves as shared facilities for union members, including rehearsal rooms, a recording studio, and a living room space that functions as a central meeting place for members. The other half was designed as the union’s office space. Mint & More was responsible for the full spatial design, assembling the design & engineering team for the building permit process, and leading the project from early concept development through to the final interior detailing.

The design process was strongly user-driven, with close attention paid to the needs and wishes of the union’s members from the very beginning. The member facilities were shaped through an ongoing dialogue with users, resulting in rehearsal rooms, a small recording studio, and a flexible event space. The new facilities support a wide range of activities, from training sessions and script readings to seminars and workshops. At the heart of the member spaces is a lounge-like kitchen area, open to all members.

The Actors’ Union required spaces that would serve its needs well into the future. To ensure longevity, multiple future-use scenarios were explored during the spatial planning phase, allowing flexibility to be built into the layout. Storage was integrated into fixed structures, making efficient use of otherwise unused space. Visually, the goal was to create an inspiring environment suited to a creative field, while maintaining a timeless and enduring aesthetic.
